I’m a perfectionist at heart.
The desire to create stuff and put things out in the world is something I’ve wanted to do for years.
I’ve done things with systems and deployed them to customers, but that’s small-localised change and ultimately judegement.
I consistently posted x3 per week on LinkedIn in 2025 for 6 months until I fell off because I was struggling to phrase things the right way, or think about what other people would actually find interesting.
In 2024 for the entire year I vlogged my first year in business with my friends. (hat’s off if you can find it, but it is out there!)
“DillonDocs” is a personal branding idea I’ve had for a while and the whole point is ‘Dillon’ (me), documenting ‘Docs’ what I’m doing.
Partly for other people, mostly for me.
Recently, I’ve gone through and rewatched some of those vlogs of my high-points and low-points, and it’s so cool to look back on.
Going right back to those moments, to see what I was doing or what I was excited about is so cool to look back on.
There’s been more ideas of Vlogs, Blogs, Podcasts, Social Media, Newsletters, Events, anything I could think of.
I am almost ashamed at the ratio of ideas to action that I’ve had with this idea for the past few years, but from today that changes.
This is going to be my space to document what I’m thinking, talk about what I’m interested in and ultimately “Just Write”, insteading of trying to get it “Just Right”.
Now, I’ve done things in the past of overly-committing to an intensity that just isn’t sustainable, and I lose motivation when I fall off.
So, this is going to be different.
When I feel like writing about something, I’ll “Just Write”.
There is no defined frequency with this, it could go days of multiple entries, it could be weeks without entires.
Topics will vary, some will be diary entries, some will be learnings, some will be exploring questions, some will be behind-the-scenes, we will keep it varied.
I spoke with a business owner yesterday who has given me to final push to do this - Colin Campbell from The Campbell Clinic. (You can check out his personal blog here, which he’s done 4,778 days in a row of posting at the time of writing this)
He does his blog so that “when I’m old and in a home, I can look back at what I was doing and read about it” (paraphrased).
And I think that creating things for yourself that happen to benefit others is a better outlook than creating things for others that may benefit you.
So this will act as that for me.
When I want to write, I’ll “just write”.
Something to look back on and share with others, hopefully it does help you too.
Not sure if this is a diary entry or a blog post, but we’re sticking with the theme of making myself uncomfortable…
