Last week I went for a meeting with Priten from MESH Training.
I met him at the Engineering and Design Show in Early October and thought what he was doing was super interesting and there was potential cross-over and collaboration opportunities.
I went to his office and he was showing me the cool stuff that they are working on and developing!
Then, I actually got to try on the VR headset inside Gravity Sketch.
Now, I haven’t used a VR headset in YEARS, because when I did I felt so sick so quickly.
It was about 6/7 years ago, my dad got a new Samsung phone and the VR headset came with it.
It was early technology, so quite blurry and I also thought it would be a good idea to go on some Roller Coaster game with loads of movement.
Very quickly, I felt incredibly nauseous and sick, so decided VR wasn’t for me.
BUT, technology has come a long way since then.
Priten is just one of many people in this space, however the stuff he is doing for product design workflows is very cool!
I got to have a play with the software and go through his mini-tutorial before going rogue…
Overlaying the VR environment through the Meta Quest VR Headset to see and augmented version got me really excited with the future.
Once the form factor is reduced to equivalent of just wearing glasses, I think it opens doors to some insane technology and solutions.
Right now, I can see how useful this would have been on my apprenticeship with workflows of products through the warehouse, or properly testing ergonomics of work station environments.
I did a placement of 3D modelling in CAD for these very solutions and presenting them to the senior team, but if I could have combined it with a VR headset to properly test - that would have been game changing!
The reality is however, that is the future of this tech and I’m very excited to see it and see how I can get involved.
My message from this is: People are cool, they are working on cool stuff, don’t be afraid to approach someone, introduce yourself, learn about their story.
Not sure if this is a diary entry or a blog post, but we’re sticking with the theme of making myself uncomfortable
